Arm the Pilots!

October 10, 2001 Volume 4, Issue 9

APC is now offering you a quick and easy way to multiply your efforts and help win more battles! Simply click http://www.referralblast.com/rblast.asp?sid=5906 to send this APC Action Alert to up to TEN of your friends! It’s fast, it’s easy, and most of all, it’s extremely effective in KILLING LEFTIST POLICIES!

Amidst all of the hysterical clamoring for national ID cards, banning of toenail clippers on airplanes, and increased government surveillance, one congressman has offered a commonsense solution that would truly help prevent airline terrorism. Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) has introduced the Anti-terrorism Act of 2001 (H.R. 2896), which would allow pilots on commercial airlines to carry firearms.

The fact is, many commercial airline pilots are retired military and are already trained in firearms usage. Armed pilots would not only act as a major deterrent to future hijackings, but they would also serve as viable defenses against a hijacking in progress. There are special bullets available that pose no serious threat to puncturing the walls of an airplane. Recall that the hijackers of September 11 were so bold as to carry out their mission with small knives and box-cutters. Why? Because they knew that every passenger, pilot and stewardess on the plane had been disarmed prior to takeoff! This atmosphere of disarmament created a hijacker’s dream—a plane full of victims.

Currently, H.R. 2896 has only 11 cosponsors. Rep. Paul has been working feverishly to have his bill attached as an amendment to the PATRIOT (Provide Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism) Act of 2001. There is not much time to waste! The PATRIOT Act will be voted on any day now. Rep. Paul’s provision MUST be included in the bill to provide real teeth against terrorism in our skies.

Sen. Bob Smith (R-NH) and Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT) are also working to pass this vital provision in the Senate. The two Senators have authored the Smith-Burns Amendment, which is essentially the Senate version of Rep. Ron Paul’s bill. They are working to have their amendment attached to the Aviation Security Act (S. 1447). Again, this is urgent! S. 1447 could come to the floor at any moment!

Unfortunately, despite the recent tragedies, the victim disarmament crowd is working overtime to keep guns out of the hands of pilots. We must counter their efforts and ensure that the anti-gunners don’t succeed in creating a safe atmosphere for terrorists!

**Action to Take**

1. Call your Representative and urge him to cosponsor Rep. Ron Paul’s H.R. 2896—the Anti Terrorism Act of 2001. Armed pilots deter terrorism! Capitol Hill House Switchboard: (202) 225-3121.

2. Call both of your Senators and urge them to support the Smith-Burns Amendment to the Aviation Security Act. Guns in the hands of pilots are imperative for aviation security! Senate Switchboard: (202) 224-3121.

American Oil For Americans!

Over two months ago, the House of Representatives passed an energy bill that would beef up domestic oil production and make the United States less reliant on foreign sources of oil. Unfortunately, the Senate is currently stalling on the issue, and has thus far done nothing to pass their version of the House bill. Decreasing our dependency on oil from the Middle East should no longer be an issue of green politics—it is a matter of national security.

Currently, the U.S. imports one million barrels of oil per day from Iraq! In the war on terrorism, Iraq is our enemy—as are many other nations who currently export oil to America. The stakes are extremely high right now. The U.S. is at war in the Middle East, and much of our oil comes from that very region. Quite simply, unless we become more self-reliant, our enemies will have us by the throat with their ability to deny us oil.

It’s time that the Senate stop listening to the radical environmental lobby and act on behalf of America’s security. It’s time that they pass legislation immediately that opens the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to domestic oil production. The oil we get from ANWR could replace the oil we get from hostile regimes in the Middle East. Best of all, our drilling in ANWR won’t harm the environment as the green demagogues claim.

It is urgent that you call both of your Senators today and urge them to open ANWR for oil production. Our national security is at stake!

**Action to Take**

1. Call both of your Senators and demand that they open ANWR for oil exploration and drilling. It’s time to stop catering to the environmental lobby and START catering to our nation’s security! Capitol Hill Senate Switchboard: (202) 224-3121.

U.N. Flag to be Raised in Gainesville

The city of Gainesville, Florida, has announced that it will raise the United Nations’ flag at Gainesville City Hall on October 25th. The U.N. flag is to fly on the same pole as the U.S. flag. In these patriotic times, the last thing the mayor of Gainesville should do is show support for such an anti-American organization!

**Action to Take**

1. Call the Mayor of Gainesville, Thomas D. Bussing, at (352) 334-5015 and demand that he NOT pay tribute to the United Nations! Also, call Gainesville City Hall at (352) 334-5005 and voice your extreme disapproval.
